Willemite
Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region , Namibia
Specimen Size: 10.8 x 9.0 x 7.5 cm (cabinet)
ex. Rob Smith
A beautiful two-sided display specimen consisting of lively blue-green blocky and spherical crystal aggregates of Willemite with a ?wet? luster and great gemminess which are associated with rhombic white Dolomite crystals on matrix. It is relatively rare to find actual crystals of Willemite from Tsumeb, especially as gemmy as these. The specimen is associated with darker reddish-brown ?Troostite? aggregates as well. A lot of color and a great size specimen for the money.

Duftite on Calcite
Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 9.0 x 6.2 x 5.1 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Calcite rhombohedron: 3.1 cm.
ex. Rob Smith
A true Tsumeb classic ! Duftite on/in Calcite is probably one of my favorite combinations from this amazing locality. This piece is a very attractive display piece featuring several good sized, white rhombohedra of Calcite which have a selective deposition of bright and dull green color Duftite. The piece is not 100% damage free, but still displays very well from BOTH sides giving the owner the choice of showing the side that is covered by mostly Duftite or the side with very little Duftite showing.

Cerussite (reticulated "snowflake")
Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region , Namibia
Specimen Size: 10.1 x 5.5 x 4.3 cm (cabinet)
ex. Rob Smith
It doesn't get any more classic than this from Tsumeb. Reticulated Cerussite specimens are best known from this mine, and for good reason. It's amazing to think how one of the most dense gem minerals on the planet occurs in some of the most delicate and complex formations. This specimen is a complete and rather hefty crystallized "snowflake" that grew in multi-tiered criss-cross layers with little "arms" flaring out between the larger ones. The piece is in great shape overall, and truly looks to me like it was assembled rather than growing naturally in this form. These specimens are commanding record numbers across the board, and I think this one is very fairly priced compared to specimens I recently viewed in Munich. This is the only reticulated Cerussite in the update, so do not miss out on it.

This specimen is comprised of lovely blue-green color spherical Rosasite aggregates, some of which are actually ?rosettes? which are sitting atop lustrous, gemmy bluish-grey colored Willemite matrix. A very nice example of this rare, pretty and colorful combination.

Duftite on Calcite
Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 6.0 x 4.8 x 4.0 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Calcite rhomb: 1.5 cm.
ex. Rob Smith
Certainly one of the most recognizable and attractive associations from Tsumeb is the eye-catching Calcite and Duftite specimens. These pieces are staples of any good Tsumeb collection. This mound of white Calcite rhombohedra has a dusting of light green Duftite creating a wonderful two-tone effect. One side of the piece is nearly completely covered with Duftite, but the other side was left untouched showing.

Willemite
Locality: Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 7.6 x 5.7 x 2.6 cm (small cabinet)
ex. Rob Smith
Tsumeb gets a lot of attention for its Willemite specimens, and while the pieces for Berg Aukus are not as significant, they still hold their own on a worldwide level. This piece is an unusually rich Willemite specimen that is comprised of thousands of GEM/gemmy, sharp, highly lustrous, doubly-terminated, hexagonal prisms with a light brownish-pink color underneath on matrix. The piece is crystallized on both sides and displays very well with virtually do damage. A very attractive Willemite from this classic Namibian locality.

Descloizite
Locality: Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 16.0 x 10.0 x 6.2 cm (large cabinet)
ex. Rob Smith
Berg Aukus is world-renown for its extraordinary Descloizite specimens. These pieces have set the standard of excellence for this zinc analogue of Mottramite. It is because of Berg Aukus that we know how good Descloizite can actually get. It has been difficult in my experience to find a Descloizite specimen of this size that's actually in good shape with great aesthetics and crystal quality. This large cabinet size piece is covered with hundreds of tabular, sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy amber brown color, layered crystal groups in rosette-like formations on matrix. There is some wear on a few of the crystals, hence the more reasonable price, but it is still a notable specimen for its sheer size and crystal quality.

The two big species from Berg Aukus are Smithsonite and Descloizite. This small cabinet size specimen consists of sharp, gemmy colorless Smithsonite crystals which are associated with reddish-brown colored Descloizite on matrix. You don?t see many of these around anymore, so don?t miss out on this very attractive display piece of this classic material.

Smithsonite
Locality: Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 8.2 x 6.1 x 4.6 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite rhomb: 4.2 cm.
ex. Rob Smith
Smithsonite is one of the heavy hitters from Berg Aukus. These specimens are not always as colorful as their Tsumeb counterparts, but when they get good, they?re great. This specimen features some remarkably large Smithsonites crystals for this mine. These compressed rhombohedra have a silky pearly luster, with appealing stepped faces and fine translucency. The crystals are smartly sitting atop a small amount of matrix, but its just enough to create a great display specimen. A little bit of edge wear is the only thing keeping this from being an exemplary Berg Aukus Smithsonite, but make no mistake, it is still very good in its own right.

Smithsonite
Locality: Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 4.0 x 2.9 x 2.8 cm (miniature)
Largest crystal: 2.8 cm.
ex. Rob Smith
A very attractive Smithsonite miniature featuring a gorgeous smoky color scalenohedron with excellent gemminess and sharp stepped faces sitting on acicular red crystals of Willemite or Aragonite on matrix. The overall quality and aesthetics of this piece make it one of more flashy and eye-catching Smithsonites from Berg Aukas that I have handled. I especially like the fact that the piece almost looks like a different specimen from different angles.

Smithsonite
Locality: Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 11.0 x 9.2 x 6.6 cm. (cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite: 1.2 cm.
ex. Rob Smith
This is an exceptionally fine quality Smithsonite from Berg Aukus featuring beautiful, razor sharp, translucent, colorless stacked or built-up scalenohedra (somewhat resembling little pineapples) sitting atop wonderfully contrasting reddish color Descloizite matrix. The color of the Descloizite is as lively as any I've seen from this locality, although most of the crystals are broken. The piece remains as a testament to how impressive Smithsonite from Berg Aukus can be. If it were not for the Descloizite on this specimen, I would have sworn this was a Tsumeb Smithsonite, and a very good one at that!

Smithsonite
Locality: Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
Specimen Size: 13.0 x 8.1 x 7.8 cm. (cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite: 3.4 cm.
ex. Rob Smith
This is a Smithsonite that is not quite like any I have seen from Berg Aukus. The specimen is comprised of dozens of fairly good sized, whitish colored, pearly, stacked rhombohedra forming some partial "rosettes" on a slab of matrix. The piece was not terribly easy to photograph, but take my word for it when I say it is a very good Smithsonite from this nearby neighbor of the Tsumeb mine.

An exemplary and very attractive Berg Aukus Smithsonite showing outstanding golden-brown color (darker than the photos show) and an eye-catching, stacked scalenohedral form. The crystals are sitting on matrix and are very gemmy, probably clean enough to cut some impressive gems. It is a superb display specimen of this classic material from this Tsumeb neighbor.
