This bivalve fossil dates from the Paleocene epoch (about 66 to 56 million years ago, starting with the mass extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous that killed of the non-avian dinosaurs) and were obviously pushed up from an ancient ocean floor when the Indian subcontinent pushed into the Asian continent and modern day Pakistan. Though I don’t know the exact species, it is from the mountains in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan (between 6,000 – 7,000 feet in elevation).
Locality: Jherruk-Lakhra-Bara Nai (Sind), Salt Range (Punjab) and Samana Range (N.W.F.P.), Pakistan
