Here we have an attractive thumbnail-sized Fluorite specimen from one of the Dorris family claims. The piece hosts a cluster of sharp, well-formed, gemmy, cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 1.5 cm and associated with small bits of blue-green Amazonite. The Fluorites show beautiful "phantom" zoning and when they're backlit they show a lovely purple color on the exterior and an unusual rich reddish to golden-brown hue in the "cores" of the crystals. This particular color combination is rare in Fluorite from any locality in my experience. The piece is undamaged on the front / display side, and shows and unusual cavity on the back, that might be a partial "cast" after a preexisting mineral like Quartz. Good thumbnails of Fluorite or any species from the Pikes Peak Batholith are hard to find because the nature of the pockets doesn't really produce them.
