Bixbyite is best known from the Thomas Range in Juab County, Utah where it was first discovered by Maynard Bixby in the 1800s. The material is not often faceted into stones, partially due to the fact that it's black and opaque, but crystals are not terribly big, so the gems are usually less than 1 carat in weight. This Trapezoid cut gem is a nice example of faceted Bixbyite with a metallic black appearance. A great gem to add to a rare stone suite or a collection of gems from the United States.
