This is a really thick and sharp Kunzite from
Afghanistan as most crystals are rather slender. You rarely see such sharply
terminated Kunzite crystals from any locality, let alone crystals that are this
deep and gemmy. Now I must point out that there is an internal fracture on the
corner of the termination that looks like a ding, but it is not any kind of
damage whatsoever. It was just a sad place for something like that to show up.
You can clearly see when you reflect the light on both sides of the termination
that it is completely inside the crystal and does not come to the surface. With
that said, I must stress that the crystal is rather gemmy and with the
two-dimensional limitations of photography, it was not the easiest specimen to
shoot. Dont lose sight of the how sharp (not at all etched) the piece is, plus
it has very good luster on all sides. The crystal is also complete all the way
around. All in all, this is a notable gem crystal from this wonderful locality.

This piece is one of the sharpest, gemmiest twinned Kuznites that Ive seen from
this area. To top it off, its also a great bi-color twin as well. If you look
closely, the twin actually has a pink Roman Sword-shaped phantom inside. I
have only seen a few bicolor crystals before, but never before have I seen a
twinned phantom crystal like this one ! Strangely enough, only one of the
crystals shows a bi-color, while the other is completely uniform in color. The
specimen is also amazingly un-etched with amazingly well-formed terminations and
razor-sharp faces all the way around.

This is really an unusual crystal from the standpoint that it appears to be a
phantom crystal. By that, I mean the lower portion of the piece shows a very
distinct, rich pinkish-purple color, and suddenly stops as it transitions into a
pale yellow-green hue. When you hold the crystal up to the light, you can see a
faint Roman Sword shaped phantom inside the crystal. It is not out of the
question that Spodumene could form phantom crystals. With that said, the piece
is still an amazingly good quality bi-color Spodumene crystal. One of the faces
is remarkably glassy and lustrous which does well to show off the great
gemminess and color. The specimen has a nice frosted termination, with sharp,
undamaged edges and the piece is noticeably pleochroic as is the case with most
Spodumene crystals.

This is a strangely compressed Kunzite with amazing
glassy faces on virtually every side plus it has great gem transparency. The
faces are also razor-sharp leading all the way up to the
termination. The crystal would easily yield a large eye clean
gemstone, and you cant say that about the majority of Kunzites you
seen from this area. I have to reiterate how sharp and glassy the
crystal is because were all so accustomed to seeing dull, etched
Kunzite specimens on the market today. There is one tiny tiny ding on the
termination, but it does not take away from the overall appeal of
this important gem crystal
