Aquamarine "Falcon"
-
$2900
Every once in a while you get a crystal that
essentially resembles something else in nature. This piece to me looks like it
could have been the centerpiece in an ancient ceremonial headdress, or propped
on the end of an emperors scepter. It just so happens that the hydrothermal
etching that took place in the pocket where this crystal formed caused one of
the terminations to etch into the evocative form of the head of a falcon. Ive
seen plenty of pieces where people tell me it looks like an animal or some other
figure, but you have to strain to see it. Not this one, it truly jumps right out
at you. In addition to the unique form of the piece, it is also TOP GEM quality
with amazingly lustrous, mirror bright, sharp faces. To top it all off, the
piece is actually doubly-terminated as well! You really cant ask for much more
with this piece. Etched Aquas usually just look like etched Aquas and nothing
more, but I couldnt resist picking this piece up when I found it. Even if it
didnt have the indicative form a bird, it is still an amazing quality crystal.
Ive sincerely seen nothing like it before.

Pakistan has simply set the standard for gem Aqua
crystals versus all other world localities. There is simply no other country
that produces high gem quality Aquamarine crystals with the consistency of the
Paki pegmatites. This piece is no exception as it consists of one predominant
and two secondary very sharp, highly lustrous, extremely well formed, prismatic,
gem/gemmy aqua blue color crystals. The main crystal has a nearly pristine
termination with only the tiniest little Wilber. It also has an interesting
pseudo-phantom included throughout the prism. It has a very silky appearance
following the same growth pattern of the crystal in which it is included. A very
good quality gem Aqua for the price, considering that the market is commanding
very high prices for the top gem specimens.

Pakistan has simply set the standard
for gem Aqua crystals versus all other world localities. There is
simply no other country that produces high gem quality Aquamarine
crystals with the consistency of the Paki pegmatites. This piece is
no exception as it consists of a very sharp gem transparent crystal
with mirror bright luster along with one second order prism
modification and one pyramidal modification. The termination is
pristine and none of the faces are at all frosted. There are plenty
of gem Aquas on the market, but this one is extremely fine quality.
Its a superb quality gem crystal for the price, considering that

Aquamarine -

Pakistan has produced more top shelf Aquamarine specimens than any other
country, but some of the most unique crystals have come from this area as well.
With such extensive pegmatites in Pakistan, one is bound to stumble upon a
completely unique and one-of-a-kind specimen such as this. This amazing
corkscrew-shaped crystal was caused due to hydrothermal etching in the pocket
after the crystal had formed. At one time is was a euhedral gem Aqua crystal but
due to natural solutions in the pocket and a little bit of luck, this piece
managed to etch itself into this most amazing and unusual shape. As the crystal
was etched you can see that the termination stayed completely untouched while
the center of the crystal was hollowed out but, still leaving partial prism
faces intact. For an added touch, there are also some associated Columbite (?)
crystals at the base of the specimen. Make no mistake, this is about as three
dimensional as a single crystal can get. Ive never seen anything like it, and
for Aqua collectors, or collectors of unusually shaped specimens, this piece
would make a stellar addition.

Beryl var. Aquamarine
with Apatite-(CaF)
-
$650
When I was selecting these Aquamarine specimens, I
looked for top quality or unusual associations. This specimen is well balanced
and highly aesthetic display piece consisting of a stubby tabular Aquamarine
crystal with good light aqua blue color, fine luster and sharpness plus a
really unique rippled basal termination. Many Aquas have either completely
smooth terminations or heavily etched terminations, but this one, while being
completely crystallized, is especially unique as it has an almost bubbly
uneven termination. The crystal may look opaque in the photos, but it is
definitely translucent and even gemmy in areas. To top it off, the Aqua is
associated with a few lustrous flattened hexagonal prisms of light purple
Apatite-(CaF) at the base. I've seen Topaz associated with
Apatite-(CaF)
from this
locality, but this is the FIRST piece I've seen with this most unusual
association of Aquamarine with
Apatite-(CaF)
! A great association specimen from
this well known pegmatite.

A virtually 100% gem quality crystal with a slightly
compressed form and a termination that features both first and second order
pyramidal modifications and a small basal pinacoid. The color is a very soft
pale blue, and the crystal looks like a piece of sculpted ice. I have to stress
that this piece looks better in person than the photos might indicate. Not your
typical habit for a GEM Aqua crystal.

Here we have a very attractive icy blue etched Aquamarine resembling a
caterpillar. The crystal is virtually 100% gem quality, with an accordion-like
appearance, but what's most interesting is that the termination has a caldera
effect where it dips down in the center and is surrounded by a crown of tiny
teeth. A really cool etched Aqua from the same locality that produced the
unique Aqua/Morganite bi-color Beryls from last year.

Beryl var. Aquamarine/Morganite

$300
This is a great rarity for Beryl. A few years ago, I
remember seeing some very interesting, rare bi-color crystals of Beryl from
Pakistan that were tabular with a pink core and a blue ring surrounding it.
These new crystals are even more rare and interesting as they feature the same
pink and blue bi-color, but with much more attractive prismatic crystals. This
piece features several attractive lustrous, sharp, very well formed, gemmy,
crystals with light blue Aquamarine terminations on the ends and pale pink
Morganite color at the centers of the crystal. Associated at the base of the
specimen is a group of nicely contrasting Albite (var: Cleavelandite)
crystals. The Aqua portion of the crystals is much gemmier than the Morganite
portions, which is somewhat confusing to me as there is a distinctive cut off
point where one color/clarity stops and the other begins. This is a great rarity
to find prismatic Morganite from any locality. Any collector who loves unusual
and colorful gem crystals should consider this one.
