A classic, fine quality display specimen of the elusive mercury-bearing Tetrahedrites from the Grosskogel near Brixlegg in the Tyrol of Austria. These pieces were once considered to be their own species, and called Schwatzite (after the fist discovery at Schwatz near Brixlegg, Austria) for many decades. They were well-known around Europe, but are nearly impossible to find on the market today. This specimen features a pair of predominant, sharp, dark grey colored, very well-formed, modified hextetrahedral crystals of Mercurian Tetrahedrite, measuring up to a full 1.2 cm, well-isolated on matrix. The crystals are in excellent condition, and the piece displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. This rare variety would most certainly make a great addition to any sulfide suite or a collection of European minerals. The piece is from the collection of Kay Robertson (#5980) with a couple of old hand-written labels.
