A very good, classic specimen of Rutile from the famous locality at Graves Mountain. These are arguably the most famous Rutiles from North America, and I prefer them to the crystals from the Champion Mine in California in terms of size and quality. The crystal on this specimen is actually twinned with rather sharp, splendent, metallic faces that show a silvery-reddish color. The crystal meausures 1.6 cm and is aesthetically sitting atop the matrix. A bit of rainbow iridescent "Turgite" can be seen on the piece as well. Rarely are these Rutile crystals seen on matrix, and this eye catching piece is a great example of this well known (and increasingly hard to find) material. The piece comes with a label from renowned California dealer and collector, Al McGuinness, the namesake for the magnesium copper carbonate, McGuinessite (see http://minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=789 for more info). Additionally, the piece is accompanied by a label from the collection of noted Italian author and mineral collector, Francesco Bedogné (#1131).
