Here we have an update of Zircon gemstones from a few different localities around the world.  Zircon is an interesting gemstone because it displays birefringence, which makes the stones appear to have twice the amount of facets on the pavilion.  Most gem materials that show birefringence are very soft, such as Calcite and Cerussite.  Zircon is harder than these materials being a 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, durable enough for jewelry and everyday wear.  Enjoy!
