No. Gross 8081 - SOLD

Grossular (var: Chromian)

Locality: Black Lake mine, Black Lake, Thetford, Mgantic Co., Qubec, Canada

Specimen Size: 7.4 x 6.7 x 3.5 cm (small cabinet)

This is about as vibrant or rich a green color that one will see in Grossular. The dodecahedral crystals on this piece, despite their size, are bursting with color which is attributed to a slight amount of Chromium. They sparkle throughout the specimen and are intermixed with small, gem quality, very thin prismatic yellow-grey crystals of Diopside on matrix. These specimens were available on the market about 10 years ago, and I have seen only a few of them for sale in the last few years. A great Canadian Garnet specimen for any collector.

No. FLUOR 8081 - $ 1450.00

Fluorite on Sphalerite

Locality: Elmwood mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee

Specimen Size: 7.3 x 4.1 x 3.6 cm (small cabinet)
Fluorite cube: 2.8 cm.

These are simply some of the most distinctive and celebrated Fluorite specimens from any locality. Despite the limited number of species that this mine has produced, the Fluorites are among the finest from the United States. This small cabinet is a beautiful display piece featuring a predominant, sharp, gemmy, light purple color cube of Fluorite with a defined phantom near the perimeter which is aesthetically perched atop dark reddish-brown crystallized Sphalerite matrix. The quality is superb and the visual beauty of the piece leaves nothing to be desired.

No. AP 8081 - $ 3000.00

Apatite (CaF) with Beryl (var: Aquamarine)

Locality: Chumar Bakhoor, Nagar, Northern Areas, Pakistan

Specimen Size: 10.2 x 7.7 x 3.5 cm (cabinet)

Largest Apatite Crystal: 2.7 cm. across Largest Aquamarine Crystal: 1.8 cm. long

This locality is known for producing the finest Fluorites in the history of Pakistani minerals, not to metnion some very impressive Apatite/Aquamarine association specimens. This specimen is a very attractive display piece featuring a group of thick, tabular, lavendar-pink color, gemmy, lustrous, hexagonal crystals of Apatite (CaF) associated with pastel blue prismatic crystals of Aquamarine associated with a few accenting white Microcline crystals all sitting atop a bed of silvery-golden bladed Muscovite crystals. The overall quality is superb on this piece, and the associations are quite charming. Perhaps the most desirable aspect of this piece is the fact that it is NOT sawn on the bottom or the sides, so it is exactly the way it came out of the ground, which means something to me.

The crystals are in excellent condition, and this is one of the finest pieces of this material that I have seen.

No. CUFES 8081 - SOLD

Chalcopyrite with Apatite-(CaF)

Locality: Barroca Grande mine, Panasqueira, Covilh, Castelo Branco District, Portugal

Specimen Size: 4.0 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm (miniature)

ex.  Gene Meieran

Panasqueira remains as one of the most unique localities in the world, and is a personal favorite of mine. This specimen is easily one of the finest Chalcopyrites from the locality that I have handled. It is a very good sized Chalcopyrite for any locality, and shows a pleasing modified scalenohedral tetragonal form and a classic metallic golden color. The final touch to this specimen are the small tabular lilac Apatite-(CaF) crystals sitting along the bottom edge of the Chalcopyrite. The piece is glued to a lucite base (I realize that Panasquiera is misspelled), but could easily be removed if one so desired.

No. Ang 8081 - $ 1500.00

Anglesite

Locality: Touissit, Oujda-Angan Province, Morocco

Specimen Size: 2.0 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm (thumbnail)

Although Anglesite is a well known secondary ore species, it is only found in a few localities worldwide in superb quality specimens. This alluring thumbnail specimen is an excellent Moroccan Anglesite with sharp, glassy faces and absolute WATER CLEAR transparency throughout a large portion of the crystals. The piece has a lively electric yellow color, and it is certainly large and thick enough to yield a stunning, world class gemstone. Now the specimen is not in pristine condition, but Anglesite is a very soft and brittle mineral, so even the slightest amount of damage is almost unavoidable. Overall, this is still a very impressive little Anglesite specimen, from what is arguably the most prolific locality for the species.

This piece is an alluring display specimen which is loaded with hundreds of prime quality, sharp, HIGHLY lustrous, fiery orange-red color, tabular and prismatic, hexagonal Vanadinite crystals sitting atop lovely, white Barite blades on gossan matrix. Certainly one of the most desirable combinations for these specimens is to have red Vanadinite on contrasting white Barite. It is a charming specimen and just about as aesthetic and well-balanced as I have seen for this material.

No. Top 8081 - $ 1200.00

Topaz

Locality: Xanda mine, Virgem da Lapa, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Specimen Size: 6.7 x 6.3 x 6.2 cm (small cabinet)

The Xanda mine is one of the most prolific localities for blue Topaz in the world, and has produced some of the most impressive and memorable specimens with that distinctive preferential etching and larger sized crystals. This specimen is a very good Topaz from any locality, not just Brazil, and is in amazingly good condition for the size. The piece has some delicate and graceful hydrothermal etching along the sides of the prism, yet has a few very well defined, sharp (un-etched), pyramidal (111) faces at the termination. Overall, this gemmy, baby blue color, sharp, lustrous cabinet size display piece is wonderful Topaz from this most classic of Topaz localities. To find a crystal in this condition is very good as it retained a few of its faces in pristine condition. A very fine natural blue Topaz specimen that is not priced anywhere near 5 figures..

No. AZUR 8081 - $ 1400.00

Azurite

Locality: Touissit, Oujda-Angan Province, Morocco

Specimen Size: 5.7 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm (small cabinet)
Main crystal (not the largest): 2.2 cm.

World class Azurite specimens are simply stunning to view, and the finest Moroccan specimens are among the most impressive in the world. The main crystal on this specimen is rather thick with a gorgeous deep azure blue color and superb, sharp, lustrous, stepped faces. You can see on the center of the crystal that it is just starting to alter to Malachite, creating a lovely green and blue color combination. It is sitting atop a larger, partial blocky Azurite crystal and mixed with Dolomite and Limonite matrix. It seems as though Touissit has reached its end as I have not seen anything in the way of fine Azurite specimens from this locality in several years. I must stress that this piece looks BETTER in person, and the photos, no matter how hard we tried, simply did not accurately represent the piece as well as we would have liked.

No. AZUR 8082 - $ 1300.00

Azurite with Malachite

Locality: Ajo District, Little Ajo Mts, Pima County, Arizona

Specimen Size: 7.2 x 6.8 x 4.7 cm (small cabinet)
Largest: 1.7 cm.

A classic Ajo Azurite specimen which is filled with several highly lustrous, deep azure blue color, bladed crystals associated with green Malachite on matrix. The crystals are very good quality for Azurite as they show a gemmy translucency around the edges when backlit. There are a few superficial bruises to some of the Azurite crystals, but these specimens are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain nowadays. Truly the specimen looks much better in person than the photos would indicate, as Azurite is a very difficult specimen to accurately photograph.

No. CUP 8081 - SOLD

Cuprite

Locality: Mashamba West Mine, Kolwezi, Western area, Shaba Cu belt, Shaba, Congo

Specimen Size: 5.0 x 3.7 x 3.1 cm (miniature)
Cuprite crystal: 1.6 cm.

Cuprite is not often seen in well-defined textbook crystals from any locality, but there are a few mines which have produced top quality Cuprites. The Mashamba mine sadly is no longer producing these specimens, and its a shame because these are certainly among the finest Cuprites in the world. This piece hosts a superb quality, RAZOR-sharp (non-skeletal) octahedral crystal of Cuprite which is gently sitting atop beautifully contrasting, botryoidal, pale blue-green Plancheite on matrix. With strong backlighting, this crystal shows scintillating flashes of intense blood-red color. It is a very pleasing Cuprite specimen from this famed locality.

This piece is in superb condition overall, and the large basal crystal flaring off the top of the piece gives it a very dramatic appearance. These specimens are few and far between on the market today, and no worldwide Calcite collection is complete without one of these beauties.

No. KUNZ 8081 - $ 5500.00

Spodumene (var: Kunzite)

Locality: Anita Mine, Hiriart Mountain, Pala District, San Diego Co., California

Specimen Size: 14.0 x 7.7 x 1.7 cm (cabinet)

ex.  Kris Korpi
ex.  Roland Reed

Even though the Kunzite is very well known to collectors, it is remarkably rare with regard to the number of localities in which fine crystals are found. The San Diego County pegmatites produced the very first Kunzites, and they remain as some of the most distinctive and highly sought after pieces for collectors. This particular crystal is a very appealing crystal with bright purplish-pink color. For a crystal of this size, it is amazingly gemmy and in very good shape all the way around. Honestly, the crystal is more than 90% gem quality and shows a VIBRANT pink color when viewed down the c axis. The crystal is rather lustrous as well, at not at all dull or pitted like many can be. This is a very good quality Kunzite, especially for a cabinet size piece, and would be very difficult to find another like it on the market these days. I must point out that there is a small blemish along the prism face that can be seen from one side, but is hidden when the crystal is turned around. I have only handled a few crystals from San Diego County of this size and quality, and they are very difficult to find even in old collections.
