Prehn 5081
Prehnite -
$350
Prehnite
is honestly one of my favorite mineral species, and specimens
from Carchelejo really have grown on my over the years. This
specimen is easily one of the best Spanish Prehnites that I
have handled. It features a pair of aesthetic, yellow-green
color, translucent, radiating Prehnite aggregates on basalt
matrix. If you’re familiar with these specimens, you’ll note
that this piece has better luster than most specimens as it
is not dull or “frosted". The piece is contacted on the back
where it detached from the matrix, and aside from a small “rub"
on the display side, the piece displays wonderfully. These specimens
are not very common, so do not miss out on this one.
Locality: Carchelejo, Jaén, Andalusia, Spain
Specimen Size: 6.0 x 5.6 x 2.4 cm.
Largest Prehnite Sphere: 3.0 cm.

No. Wulf AZ 5081
Wulfenite -
$250
(RESERVED)
This
piece hails from this historic find of these classic “window
pane" habit style crystals where were collected in 1967 by Leigh
Price. It features four VERY gemmy (virtually water-clear in
areas), RICH orange color, sharp, lustrous tabular “window panes"
of Wulfenite associated with minor Limonite. The largest crystal
has a minor nick, but truly is not that distracting when you’re
looking through a piece of red glass like this. Overall, these
are very good quality Wulfenite crystals, not only from the
Red Cloud, but any mine. This piece was in my personal collection
for years, and represents what was one of the single most signficant
finds at this storied Arizona locality
Locality: 150 level, Red Cloud Mine, Trigo Mts., La Paz County,
Arizona

Tourm Pak 5081
Tourmaline (Elbaite and Schorl) on Albite -
$300
This
piece was part of my personal collection from my teenage years,
but I have decided to scale my collection down, so I will be
parting with pieces that I have owned for years. It features
a sharp, prismatic, multi-color crystal with a colorless “Achroite"
cap which grades into a beautiful blue-green color, with olive-green
edges, and a jet black core of Schorl. The crystal is sitting
atop porcelain like, lustrous Albite matrix. To top it off,
the termination on the crystal is very attractive showing modifying
r (1011) and e (1012) rhombohedral
faces along the pinacoid.
Locality: Stak Nala, Skardu Road, Haramosh Mts., Gilgit, Northern
Areas, Pakistan

Hack Afg 5081
Sodalite (var: “Hackmanite") HIGHLY FLUORESCENT ! -
$650
These
specimens are certainly some of the finest and largest Hackmanites
in the world. Not only are they beautiful in every day lighting,
showing various shades of blue, pink and purple, but when they
are just as impressive when exposed to ultra-violet light. This
specimen features a sharp, lustrous, rich pinkish-purple color
crystal group of Hackmanite with minor Winchite on matrix. The
crystal group has well defined, lustrous faces and though it
is not complete all the way around, it is in very good condition.
Many Hackmanites from Afghanistan show highly pitted or dull
faces on the crystals, but this one is certainly in the upper
ranks for quality. Lastly, as you can see in the photos, this
piece is strongly fluorescent showing an intense salmon pink
color under LW UV light (the pictures shows MORE fluorescence
than in person) and a bluish-white color under SW UV light.
The piece is also incredibly phosfluorescent showing a powder-blue
shade and the crystal itself will actually turn a darker royal
purple color when viewed in daylight after being exposed to
UV light. The crystal will eventually return to it’s normal
pinkish-purple color after a few hours. This phenomenon is known
as tenebrescence. The process of “changing" the color of the
crystal is 100% repeatable, and in no way permanently affects
the specimen.
Locality: Kiran, Kokcha valley, Badakhshan, Afghanistan
Specimen Size: 4.0 x 3.6 x 2.8 cm.
Hackmanite Crystal Group: 2.0 cm.

Mim Aus 5081
Mimetite -

There
are easily some of the most intense Mimetite specimens extant.
The color is outstanding, which is a big part of the reason
why people are drawn to secondary ore minerals in the first
place. This little beauty is filled with small, barrel-shaped
crystals of neon lime green color Mimetite crystals on matrix
from this historic locality. You don’t see many of these on
the market anymore.

Rhod Aus 5081
Rhodonite on Galena -
$1200
Broken
Hill is one of the great world localities, and did a great deal
for the overall prosperity of Australia. Rhodonites from Broken
Hill are some of the most beautiful specimens in the mineral
world. Matrix specimens are rare, but to find euhedral, gem
quality crystals on matrix is extremely significant. This specimen
features a very good sized, well-defined, prismatic crystal
of Rhodonite with classic fiery gemmy red color. To top it off,
the crystal is aeshetically jutting out of contrasting silvery-grey
Galena matrix. Broken Hill Rhodonites are the standard of excellence
for the species, and these specimens are becoming next to impossible
to obtain in today’s market. Keep in mind that the majority
of these specimens were mined approximately 60 years ago.
Locality: Broken Hill, Yancowinna County, New South Wales, Australia
Specimen Size: 3.8 x 3.0 x 1.3 cm.

Sphal Rho Per 5081
Sphalerite with Rhodochrosite -

Rarely
does this combination occur in nature, and the sharp green and
pink contrast is hard to ignore. This specimen came out of my
personal collection, and was one of the first pieces I purchased
years ago when I was a kid. It features dozens of sparkling,
gemmy green to green-yellow crystals of Sphalerite which are
coated by a “wash" of gorgeous link pink Rhodochrosite. Not
your typical Peruvian sulfide specimen to say the least!

aggregates of steel-grey Bournonite! Most of the Calcite crystals
are intact, though a few are contacted. The specimen displays
very well from two angles. This is a specimen from my personal
collection, and is one of the better pieces of this appealling
and now hard to find material that I have offered for sale.

color Hematite on matrix. It is in great condition and displays
very well.

Hem Rus 5081
Hematite -
$400
First,
please know that piece was a nightmare to photograph, and truly
looks much better in person. It was very hard to convey the
quality and attractive crystallization on this piece. With that
said, this specimen is only the second piece of this material
that I have ever seen. My father and I bought this about 10
years ago for the “Alpine" collection, and we decided to sell
it just before he died. It is a gorgeous small cabinet display
specimen comprising large, sharp, HIGHLY lustrous, metallic
silvery blades of Hematite in parallel growth. The piece has
a contact on the bottom where it was removed from the pocket,
but displays very well and is simply a really cool “Alpine-type"
Hematite. The three-dimensionality of the specimen does not
show through in the photos, but please know that this is a unique
and very hard to find specimen, especially now since nothing
is coming out of Russia anymore.
Locality: Pyrtyndyrma, (Pyrtindyrma), (purportedly from the
Peda mine - an "Alpine cleft" deposit) approx. 25 km south/southwest
of Puiva, 30 km south/southwest of Dodo, 27 km due south of
Neroika Mt., and approx. 65 km west/southwest of the Village
of Saranpaul, Subpolar Ural Mts., Tyumen Oblast, Russia

Ap Mor 5081
Apatite -
$(SOLD)
These
are some of the most distinctive color Apatite crystals from
any locality. They’re not quite yellow, they’re not quite green,
but the best ones have very intense color. This specimen hosts
a few rich yellow-green color, sharp, lustrous, prismatic Apatite
crystals which are associated with some good sized brownish-black
Actinolite crystals on matrix. One of the bigger Apatite crystals
is contacted around the termination, but the biggest crystal
is nearly pristine and shows the best color and quality of any
of the specimen. It is fairly priced for the material, and I
have not seen nearly as many of these specimens on the market
as I did about 6 or 7 years ago.
Locality: Imilchil, Anti-Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Aqua Ch 5081
Beryl (var: "Aquamarine") -
$700
These
are some of the most distinctive and attractive Aquamarine specimens
from any locality. The crystals have an unusually tabular habit,
and the best of these specimens are some of the finest matrix
Aquas around. This specimen comprises several GLASSY, sharp,
GEM/gemmy, pale sky blue, tabular crystals of Aquamarine which
are associated with beautifully contrasting white single crystals
of Albite and are sitting atop a bed of silvery-gold bladed
Muscovite crystals on matrix. I know that the Aqua crystals
looking like a jumbled mass in the photos, but they are SUPERB
quality and loaded with lots of first and second order modifications.
This specimen was VERY difficult to photograph, but take my
word for it, this piece is better in person. I have seen several
of these specimens on the internet in the past few years, and
for the size, aesthetics and quality, this a very reasonably
price cabinet display specimen.
Locality: Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu District, Sichuan Province,
China
Specimen Size: 11.2 x 6.7 x 3.2 cm.
Largest Aquamarine Crystal: 3.2 cm.

a somewhat ethereal “scepter"-like display piece. It is crystallized
all the way around, and one of the more appealing pieces of
this material that I have had to offer for sale.

ask for better aesthetics and visual appeal. Several gemmy,
colorless, scalenohedra of Calcite gracefully rest on two sides
of a gorgeous gemmy purple and colorless “phantom" cubic crystal
group of Fluorite which is associated with minor Quartz and
Barite. The color contrast in this specimen is incredibble,
and this is definitely one of those specimens that you will
notice from across the room. With all the Fluorites from China
on the market, you have to admit that this one is distinctive
and uinque.

Pyro Ch 5081
Pyromorphite -
$400
There
are a few localities world wide that produce superb matrix Pyromorphite
specimens, and the Daoping mine is certainly recognized as one
of the top localities for the species. I like this particular
specimen because it shows good isolation between the crystals,
as opposed to intergrown clusters as is more common for the
species. The prisms have a lovely light green color with very
good luster and sharpness. They are sitting atop contrasting
orange colored Limonite on matrix. Most of the crystals are
pristine, save a few around the periphery where the specimens
was removed from the pocket wall during the collecting process.
A very well balanced display specimen of this contemporary classic
material.

Cass Ch 5081
Cassiterite on Muscovite -
$500
These
Cassiterite specimens from Xuebaoding are some of the most easily
recognizable and eye-catching specimens to come out of China
in recent years. This specimen hosts a shapely, lustrous, sharp,
black (very dark brown), “pagoda-like" twinned crystal group
of Cassiterite sitting atop a mound of silvery-golden color
bladed Muscovite. I love the way the Cassiterite is perfectly
centered and balanced on the matrix. For a cabinet size specimen,
it is very fairly priced, especially since less and less of
them seem to be coming out over the last few years.

atop a plate of grey-white color Quartz crystal matrix. This
specimen was another that was difficult to photograph, and the
Fluorite crystals are actually much gemmier (nearly water clear)
in person. The elegant visual appeal of the piece makes for
a stunning cabinet size display specimen, and is truly looks
better in person than the photos would indicate.

Rhod Ch 5081
Rhodochrosite -
$1200
I
first saw these specimens a few years ago, and was understandably
attracted to them instantaneously. Initially I was told that
they were from “Babu", but came to find out that they were actually
from the Wudong mine. This specimen is loaded with hundreds
of gorgeous sharp, light pink color “rosettes" of Rhodochrosite
which are overgrowing prismatic, colorless Quartz crystals and
are sitting on a matrix of massive Sphalerite and Pyrite. This
is the best cabinet specimen of this material that I have seen.
The “rosettes" remind me of the classic specimens from the Eagle
mine in Colorado, and the color is not too far off either. I
have not seen many of these specimens and I have to believe
that not too many collectors have one in their collections.
Locality: Wudong mine, Liubao (“Babu"), Cangwu County, Wzhou
Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China
