Idaho Spessartine!

This page features a select suite of difficult to obtain, fine quality specimens from a very remote locality recently designated as a National Recreation Area in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. where mineral collecting is no longer allowed. These specimens were collected over Labor Day weekend in 1974 by R. A. Kosnar from a "stringer" of relatively small, pegmatite cavities containing Spessartine, Smoky Quartz, Albite, Microcline, and rarely Zinnwaldite. The Spessartine from this locality is of a relatively pure nature being the Manganese end member of the series and these crystals contain very little Iron.

Enjoy !!
