The “gooseberry” colored Beryls from the western United States known as Red Beryl are some of the most distinct, well known and classic of all gem minerals. Perhaps the most famous Red Beryls are found in the Wah Wah Mountains of western Utah. These world famous specimens are among the most highly sought after, arguably the most beautiful and certainly least common of all the varieties of Beryl. Typically, the crystals are small, and rarely large/clean enough to cut stones over 1 carat in weight. I recently acquired this parcel of specimens at the Tucson Show from a good friend who after diligent digging efforts discovered a brand new but small area that is producing some very attractive and exciting new specimens of this well known material.

These specimens are fresh out of the ground, and some of were glued to thin acrylic bases before I purchased them, and you will the edges of these bases in some of the photos. As is often the case with Red Beryl, they are more attractive in person than photos can indicate, so please keep this in mind when viewing the pieces in this update.
