The Brazilian Jaguar
No. Jag Brazil 1
JAGUAR CARVING in
EMERALD/SCHIST MATRIX -
$7,500
The Portuguese word for Jaguar does not have to be
translated from English because they are they same.
The jungles of Brazil play host to these magnificent,
exotic predators. They are also an object of esteem,
respect and admiration so much so that they are
exhibited in Brazilian artwork. This is truly a work of art,
and just so happens to fit right in with the mineral/gem
industry. I'm sure that most of you have seen
gemstone/mineral carvings before, but this is
something incredible. The entire piece is one solid
(the only parts glued together are the eyes and teeth)
entity, hand-carved and signed by locals near Bahia,
Brazil. It was carved and polished completely from a
large block of mica-schist matrix while leaving an array
of brilliant green Emerald
crystals that formed in the mica
still showing on the surface. It has
incredibly good detail, from the individually and evenly
carved teeth all the way down to the muscle tone in the
legs of this jungle cat.
Locality: near Bahia, Minas Gerais, Brazil
