Mixed Bolivian Minerals

No. Bltd 53 Viv
VIVIANITE with Pyrite - $775

Vivianite from Bolivia is a tough species to photograph. I tried my best to get the great rich green color and true gemminess of this specimen to come through in the photographs, but this piece looks better in person. I personally acquired this specimen in Bolivia in the Fall of 2000 at the mine at Huanuni. This was one of very few gem Vivianites that I was able to obtain. It is simply a very gemmy, sharp, highly lustrous crystal.

Locality: Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 7 x 1.7 x 1 cm.

CASSITERITE with Quartz - $2,200

For those who are not familiar with Cassiterite from Huanuni, it is unlike any of the other Cassiterites from Bolivia because these crystals are elongated tetragonal prisms and this is THE BEST Cassiterite specimen I have ever seen from Huanuni. It does not show well in the photographs, but it has fantastic, jet-black, incredibly lustrous crystals associated with minor "milky" Quartz crystals. A great "cabinet" specimen !

Locality: Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 11 x 7 x 4 cm.

STANNITE - $300

A fantastic "floater" group consisting of sharp, lustrous, well-formed crystals. This is some old great classic San Jose material and a killer "thumbnail" of this copper/iron/tin sulfide.

Locality: San Jose mine (now extinct), Oruro (town), Oruro Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 2.5 x 2 x 1 cm.

SIDERITE - $545 (SOLD)

These are seldom seen, but very magnificent specimens because they are actually lustrous, sharp "rosettes" of Siderite covering Quartz. The individual "points" of Siderite that are shooting out of the specimen are Quartz crystals which are covered by Siderite. A very aesthetic and hard to come by specimen.

Locality: Chojñacota, Loayza Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 15 x 12.3 x 6.4 cm.

CASSITERITE on Quartz - $4,500 (SOLD)

A grand specimen of world-famous, classic, exceptional, sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, golden color crystals of Cassiterite on crystallized Quartz matrix. Before there were Chinese Cassiterites, these were the only ones really available in any quantity. This specimen is essentially perfect all the way around the display side.

Locality: Viloco (formerly Araca), Loayza Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 10.5 x 6.5 x 6 cm. (Largest Crystal: 2.4 cm. across)
Mined: 1955

VAUXITE - $795 (SOLD)

A lovely, delicate crust of gorgeous, lustrous, sharp, crystallized "balls". This is a fantastic example of an extremely rare, but incredibly beautiful, best blue color phosphate ! Part of the appeal of collecting minerals is the chance to have a specimen in your possession that is both rare and beautiful. It is this combination that truly makes collection minerals unique. Vauxite is one of my favorite minerals for the simple reason that it is an amazing blend of the two features that I mentioned previously, rarity and beauty. This piece is especially significant because the shape in which it formed. The best way to describe the shape is that it is a like a half-tube, or half-pipe. A totally unique shape as most Vauxite specimens are not nearly as three dimensional as this one.
Please note that this specimen is from Huanuni, and not Siglo XX. I can verify this because I personally know the man who collected them in the late 1970's.

Locality: Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 7.5 x 4 x 3 cm.
